Yes
Paid a visit to Martin Mere today and spotted on their notice board cuttings from the Advertiser and the Southport Visitor which included the same photo of an otter which I entered into the WWT photo competition in November. Now I'm obviously pleased about this but I would have thought that the papers or the people at the WWT would have informed me that they were going to appear so I could get a copy

Here are the items.

Cheers Andy

It's probably not surprising. They probably had the storey submitted to them by the WWT at Martin Mere with some images for illustration. I can't see a busy News Desk taking the time out to let people know their pictures are in the newspaper ( That's a circulation department responsibility  ) The WWT may have submitted it as a press release, so they didn't know what images would have been selected or even if and when it would have been published.

Suppose you're right John. Might have to contact them and see if they can let me have a copy.

and a cheque!!

On this occasion I don't think I will as I did enter the comp fully conversant with the t&c's. But in other circumstances I would be knocking on their door with an invoice :boxer:

and why I rarely enter!

Same here. I only entered this one as my wife and I are members of the WWT and wanted to support them.

Hahaha, of course they don't let the people know that they've used your photo. Thats perfectly normal. Annoying, yes, but normal.

that's scandalous Andy! they've put you down as being from West Lancashire! :D

Yes I know, its cut me really deep has that. I'm 'Cheshire born and Cheshire bred strong in th'arm and thick in th'ead'.

Nice shots !!

As mentioned though this very much falls within the normal T&Cs of photo comps - there's no obligation to contact you as they'd argue it's being used to publicise the competition.

Personally I don't always have a major issue with things like this as the publicity it generates is well worthwhile - some competitions do take things a little too far with rights though so when entering any comp it's essential to read the T&Cs in full.

Well done

Simon

and why I rarely enter!
Agreed. I'm constantly getting told I should enter competitions but upon reading the T&Cs don't bother.
