Published!

Congratulations, I remember you posting that second image on here before, very impressive.

 nice one

well done, it is always good to get recognised

I can hear the teeth grinding now at the 5DII being called a High Street camera! :D

Congrats, superb photos!

"Amateur photographer Drew Buckley and his High Street camera"

Please don't tell me that means they didn't pay you!

Very well done Drew!

Please let's not let this descend into a "did he get paid or didn't he" thread....

As has been said already, it's none of our business.

Excellent shots...

Janet

Ugh, wow, the imbecile daily mail commenters, this time from the gear whore league, have struck again - my god, will they EVER find something that they can't whinge incessantly about?

Well done :)

Cracking pics and a worthwhile story :)

Shame about a few of the comments on the story... Muppets.

Just in case that comment refers to me - your post has been reported!!

Not really any of your business, is it?

Well done Drew, cracking shots!

(and don't worry, I only have a High Street camera too )

These pictures are good enough to command a considerable fee - I assume from your comment that the daily mail got a freebie!

I think it's referring to the comments on the story on the DM site.

I totally agree, and I don't know whether they did or not but, as I said, it's not really any of our business.

Why can't we just congratulate Drew on some great shots and some excellent exposure for them without dragging out the oldest elephant in the building (never mind the room) every time?

because that 'elephant' is so important to the future of photography as we know it.

These are great shots, and at his age getting a nice slot in a national daily paper is a great acheivement. Whether he got paid or not is irrelevant, he ahs something to frame, put on the wall, show his relatives now and his kids in the future.

And if he goes pro, it will look great ont he wall in reception/front of the portfolio.

It's not all about the money...

And the next time he gets something decent, he can ring up the same journo, who may well remember him, and get another one published, and then maybe get a fee, or a job......

I was going to ask who got paid to take his portrait, and why he didn't shoot it himself and charge a fee for that instead!

sorry - but once they publish you for free - what makes you think they'll ever pay you (or anyone else if they can get away with it) a fee? No-one can go pro on credits alone!

Cracking shots Drew and i'm glad you got paid as well as they are certainly worth the money. Its also interesting reading the comments on the DM site re the gear used, it seems these people forget that even a 5Dmk2 and 17-40 are useless unless the chap behind the camera knows what he is doing, which you sir do.

Excellent stuff and well done. Slightly jealous about where you live as we went on holiday in Pembrokeshire last year and it was gorgeous.
