Hi,
very briefly, we are looking to expand our dlsr family,
almost sold on the jessop deal for d5000 with twin lenses 18/55 and 55/200, when I saw a d200 on mpb, so heres the question, which one?

new d5000+twin lenses £499.00

second hand D200 (about 14.000shutter actuations) body only £399.00

Thought d200 would be more expensive
 
The D200 is quite an old camera and you are quoting price as second hand without lenses. You could get the D5000 second hand without lenses for less than the D200. Then again they are both good cameras but also very different aimed at very different consumers.

it would be for my partner who s only starting getting into dslrs now, i believe d200 was class as high end product and d5000 as upper entry or there about
 
Well yes of course it is, but as I said the D200 is quite old now and as it happens with technology it gets outdated very quickly. D200 has already the D300 and D300s that followed it up which are already oldish. The d5000 is only about a year old.

In any case if she is starting out you should be checking second hand D90s as well. You can get a D90 for £400 and a bit second hand but you get a much better sensor than the D200 and a more capable camera than the D5000.
 
yeah d90 has always been an option, until i noticed the d5000 deal, that still stands out as the best, we also considered d3100 against d5000
 
The D3100 has an even better sensor and better video capabilities than the D5000 but lacks quite a few of the features of the D5000. Let her go to the store and play around with them all. I will assume you also have a Nikon body and some lenses so at least you can lent each other lenses so the two kit ones are not that big of a deal?.
 
yeah i have a d3000, only started last year, and i am in the process (or would like to) buy a 35mm f/1.8. However the idea is to be both on nikon and exchange lenses and stuff
 
I shoot with a D200, at low ISO its fantastic. And its built like a tank, I'd take it over a D90 or D5000 any day personally. It's a full magnesium body and nice and big in the hands, the user controls are much more accessible than the consumer grade Nikons, which require you to wade through menus to change settings.

And you can use it in commander mode with CLS (as can the D90, but not sure on the D5000...?)
