Has anybody got any experience of using a Q strap with a Canon 100-400? I use a Optech neck strap but find it just too heavy around the neck so thinking about a sling strap.

Can't comment on the Canon 100-400 but I have regularly used it with a D3S/D4 & 70-200, no problem at all - I wouldn't use anything other than a 'sling strap' now :)

Also dont know re your lens but i use the Black Rapid sling strap with my 5d2 and 70-200 and its great. i also have the black rapid strap that is for two cameras, and it goes over both shoulders and that also is very good with distributing the weight. Not sure where you are based but good shops will let you try etc and should have in stock. Some match online prices.

If you a;ready have an optech neck strap, why don't you just get their sling-strap & swap em over?

I have both the Optech and Q Strap that I regularly use with my Nikon D200 with battery grip and a Sigma 70-200mm or my Sigma 50-500mm with no problems I have no preference for either it's just a case of which one comes out the bag first

I've never used a Q strap but I would also recommend a Black Rapid, I use one with a Sigma 120-300 which weighs about 3kg and it's works well.

I lug a 5d3 around in a qstrap all day, often with a 70 - 200 is 2 stuck on it with no problems

Not sure how lens size compares to the Canon, but my Sigma 150-500 was fine with the Q Strap. I used to mount it at the tripod foot rather than the camera for better balance.

Thanks everyone. I'm going to go for the Q strap rather than the Optech as I like the idea of it attaching to the lens rather than the body.
Once again cheers for the advice.

You can get a OP Tech sling connector which gives you the option of converting your existing strap to a sling (it does depend on what type of OP Tech strap you have already).

And use a tripod plate bolt on the lens plate

I have the Q strap and it's not as comfy as the OP Tech system.
