Quality betwen EX and std Sigma lenses

Is there much difference between the build and optical quality between std and EX sigma lenses?

I have had both EX and at the moment have a 120-400 OS that is not classed as EX and have found no difference in either build or IQ from ex to standard.
 
The EX ones normally come with a hood and a case and often a better finish. All my Sigma lenses are EX and they seem to have a better look and finish than the non EX lens I once owned.

Sigma does advertise that but you have to register them in order to get it plus it CANT be an import -

Sigma states:-

"Before purchasing your Sigma EX lens, please check with your retailer that the lens has been imported by Sigma Imaging (UK) Ltd. If the lens has not been imported by us, the extended UK warranty will not be available."

Certainly my EX 105mm did; 3 years warranty after registering it on their web site. As I have never had a Std Sigma I don't feel as though I can add any more to what has been said already.
