Question about contracts

Okay, so I am going to be starting to cover gigs and live music in the area. I am doing one of the regular gigs for free until April/May when they are going to hire me to do some promotional shots. I am currently trying to get my name out and about so am doing these completely free, I am also letting them have a few images for their website/fb for free too. I want to draw up a contract stating what they are allowed to use the images for and that they are not to re-sell without first consulting me!

Anyhoo, that's the first one, I am also hoping to become a photographer for another local music night, and want to draw up a similar contract (they can't sell unless they ask me first and they aren't allowed to use any images anywhere other than their website unless they get permission off me)

And also, I need to put in there that all images taken by me are credited too!

Anyone know of a template I can use or have a similar one I can pinch and tweak?!

Hi Poppy

This does sound a bit strange, they want you to work for free for four or five months and will then pay you for some work by which time maybe they will have someone else lined up to work for free?

I would try and set up a fairly tight agreement with them.

You (Poppy) can take the pictures and use them for promoting yourself (websites etc).

They (and specify who "they" is/are and they all sign the agreement) can use watermarked pictures (specify maximum size and supply at this size and state that they are not to be edited without your prior written permission) and specify exactly what they can be used for - ie facebook, venue website, band's website and for how long - ie until April/May and then if they don't start paying you, their licence to use the images expires and any further use will be payable at £xxx.xx for a term of x months/years, at which time all images will be removed from their sites or a further sum/licence will be agreed

Forget about them selling them withoug contacting you first. They do NOT sell them at all. If anyone wishes to purchase them or use for any purpose other than those specified in the licence/terms of agreement then it is done by you under a separate agreement.

I am not a lawyer, these are just a few of the things I would incorporate with what you are saying and knowing how people take advantage :)

Thanks guys, I offered to attend a gig nearby for free, as I am trying to get my name out there and atm, it's going slow, as I have the baby to look after, I can't be everywhere, they already have one photographer they work with, and I checked out his shots and tbh, they're not really that good!

And they said they'd like to hire me to do promotional work when their new budget comes in, bit complicated really but works for me, thanks for above comments, I will put all into the contracts!
