Hello

I have a Sony A200 and want to purchase a flash gun.

Jessops have one for £99 but I have been advised to avoid this and the Sony equivilant seems to be about £180 which is a bit steep

I know some minolta ones work but only newer ones I have been told

Anyone know which models do work or why older ones dont?

Thanks

Like you said, Sony ones are pretty expensive. I like the idea of F42 but cannot afford it right now.

Basically the ones that work (ADI/TTL etc - auto mode if you like!) are:

Minolta 3600HSD
Minolta 5600HSD
Sony 36 (rebranded 3600HSD)
Sony 56 (rebranded 5600HSD)
And obviously the new Sony 42 and 58s.

You should be able to get a 3600HSD for around £100. Not sure about other makes, but I'm sure someone here bought the Sigma flash (for sony mount) and was pleased with it.

if i sale my a300 and lens, i might have a F42 for sale and maybe a battery grip too if it doesn't sell with the body

i chose sony as quality is alot better in quality, functions, syncing etc.
it's also wireless too and has a stand for it etc.

you get what you pay

how much is: Sigma 530 DG Super ?

depends where/when you buy/bought but it's available new in the UK for £185 (less for grey import).
If you can do without the wireless the standard 530 DG is available ~£120

What was wrong with the Jessops 360AFD?

It's available for Sony, it's got full manual and optical slave modes if you want to get creative and eTTL if you want the camera to do all the work. Tilt, swivel etc

It's not going to outpower the sun but it's an ok flashgun for less than half the price of the big boys.

I've got pentax, sony and canon fit versions of these for off camera playing - great cheap flash, fully manual built in optical slave and all less than £40 second hand :)
