question about lens sharpness

Ok, this is my first post on this forum and i have a question about lens sharpness.

i have just got back into photography after a few years and am back to using my old d90. a few days ago i got a sigma 70-200 non os version but took it back as when i was focusing on someones eye it was focusing on the nose instead so i got a refund as after some tests in the shop it was 20mm front focusing.

today i have then bought a tamron 28-75 2.8 and when i am focusing on someones eye again with an off camera sb600 set up it seems like the eye isnt as sharp as it is in other peoples images i have seen (it doesnt seem to be sharp at all

could it be a problem with my camera body?
i dont have a flickr anymore but i could set one up and then take a few quick shots with the new tamron to show you guys if you dont mind having a look.

i will also take a few with my nikon 50mm 1.8 and tamron 90mm to compare just to see if it is something wrong with the body.

would you guys mind helping me out?

make sure you include the exif settings too.
 
is there anything that would be best to take a pic of to show if there is a problem with the sharpness or should i just do an eye or something? any particular f stop?

Newspaper is a common fav as you can look at the text sharpness and i would say a range of F stops is best for comparison You could also look at the images in NX and view your focus points that way also to check how the focus is working compared to what you think you're capturing. Good luck!

If your camera is front or back focusing, this is adjustable. Either take it to a Nikon repair centre or look in the menu for micro-focus adjustment. Not sure how old the 90D is, so it may not have this feature, but can still be adjusted....
 
if it is taken at 50mm its with my nikon 50mm 1.8
if its 90mm its with the 90mm tamron macro
if its anything else its with the tamron 28-75mm

i have shown you the macro and the 50 just for comparison.

also what do you think of the eye shot? is it sharp? am i just being picky?
if you would like any other pictures i will take them and post them asap

I'd like to see the images before making any judgement ;)
 
Ive looked through them all and it seems fine to me. Without knowing exactly what you focused on in the newspaper shots, I cant say if its front or back focusing, but its certainly sharp enough.
The eye shot looks fine, maybe a touch more sharpness in PP would make it pop, but for out of the camera it looks fine.
 
Can't tell much from the newspaper test shots because you haven't indicated the exact spot you focussed on.
