Question about photohosting

Yes
Guys/Gals/Aliens (I think that covers most possibilities!)

I'm looking for somewhere to upload photos to use as portfolio/gallery location - can anyone suggest anywhere decent? I'm not too sure what the best one to use is and I can't find anywhere that tells me these sort of (admittedly stupid!) things!

You can use places like Flickr if you want a free or paid account.

I use an america site called Pbase.com cost $23 a year and never have any issues with it. There are plenty of sites out just find the one that suits your needs.

how many pictures, and how often will they be changing. a 12 image slideshow is totally different to an event photographers needs...

At the moment I'm not too sure how often I'll be uploading or things like that - it was easy when I was doing nightclub photography (DontStayIn hosted all the photos for the events) but I'm looking for something I can use for general everyday stuff - I don't have my own webspace to stick things on there (yet - but if I can't find anything I like I'll go down that route), so I guess I'm just looking for suggestions.

I use Jalbum for making galleries.

I know a lot of TPers use wordpress or pixelpost templates and get their own hosting pakages and domain name dirt cheap. it's pretty easy and quite fun customising everything if you want to.

I used pixelpost and found it all very easy. Link in my sig

Another vote for Pbase - works very well, with a variety of templates you can use, and is dirt cheap. I have over 8000 images on line for very little money.

easy to setup, you can make things hierarchical so main sections with sections underneath etc.
I know mines a mess and needs sorting out... :D

pbase generally looks like ****, though. Flickr at least looks like it was designed in the 2000's.
