Hi,

I have a Sigma 50-500mm (nikon fit) lens. I am thinking of selling it and am trying to look at what it could be worth. The problem is, all of the bigma lenses I can find are DG lenses - mine seems to be a D lens.

I have tried to have a browse online, including Sigma's own website and their discontinued lenses, but I can't find a reference to a D lens. Does anyone know what the difference is please?

Here is a shot of it to show you what I mean.

Cheers
Steve

That's a 50-500mm APO

worth a little less than the DG coating.

I think you may have that the wrong way round.

APO is the glass/coating and the DG is for the camera format & Digital Cameras. DG is now also used for Full Frame and DC is for Crop when looking at Sigma lenses. For info > http://www.sigmaphoto.com/service-support/faqs

"D" lenses were introduced to enable Matrix metering with the newer cameras in the 90's > https://www.graysofwestminster.co.uk/glossary/af_designations.php

Yours is probably the very first of these lenses. As for the value, MPB have a newer Canon HSM one (built in AF motor) for £479, there's a old Sigma fitting one on ebay for £349 to give you an idea. List it on ebay with a high reserve in a auction and see what it gets too.

well that is a first for me, I always thought APO was a different glass than the standard lens and DG was the coating??

Yes I know that APO doesn't refer to the coating but the OP was asking about value and the APO is worth less than the version with the DG coating ... I was just keeping it simple, maybe too simple :)

Mike you have read my post wrong it seems.

APO (apochromatic) = is the coating or type of glass.

DG = is for digital or Full Frame cameras.

thanks all for the responses - it has helped a lot! Looks like a trip to ebay maybe in order (to help fund the next lens :) )
