Hi,
I've just splurged out on one of these. Can you tell me which filter you use for protection/UV/skylight please? I'm just after a basic form of protection (with no side effects!), thanks,....David
I bought a lens some time ago which had a ..Hoya HD Protector
TBH I couldn't see any difference IQ with it off or on
but now I'm starting to shoot with no filter and put the protector back on before it goes in the bag

funny you should bring up Marumi - I dont think it is well known ...
I've just got a 17-70 Sigma from Derek [
] and been looking at slimline C-PL filters for weekslenstip.com have done "tests", and Marumi came out very well
slimline C-PL DHG from Clifton Cameras @£56 deliv
[ their Super DHG was first, but out of my budget.......

I have a 52mm Hoya Pro-1 Digital MC in LPF [low profile frame]
for my Nikon kit 18-55 DX and it's great
unfortunately, surfing for a 72mm [new Sigma 17-70] is frustrating as many suppliers use different designations and/or box colours which dont agree with the Hoya main Site

There is no such thing as a filter with zero side effects, though with good ones they are minimal. A lens hood gives good protection, whether you use a filter or not - only beneficial side effects with that. It's all I use.
