Quick 7D/Back Button AF Question

Hi all,

The back button AF thread has got me trying it out on my new 7D.

I've set the back button to auto focus however now I obviously don't want a half press of the shutter to do the same.

I have the option to set that to either -

Metering and AF start (which I obviously don't want)
Metering Start
or AE Lock

Which is best to have out of metering start and AE lock?

Do you have ' Metering start/Meter + AF start'?
 
I've got mine set to 'AE Lock', it proves to be very useful if the lighting is a bit inconsistent or if you need to recompose a shot after focussing. Sometimes my subject is off-centre and the ability to lock into an exposure when not using Manual exposure mode is very useful.

With this setting in place, I notice as I look through the viewfinder and trying to achieve focus that the exposure settings constantly change dependant on the lighting conditions - for example the shutter speed, and the ISO if i'm using it on auto-ISO, when I shoot in Av.

edit: my AF-on button is set to 'Metering and AF start'

Metering start for me. The AE lock button is right next to the button you use to BBF. SO the option is there if you need it.

I don't have a 7D but I looked on tinternet and I see you can set the front shutter button and the AF-on button separately
