Evening all :)

Im planning to insure my 40D and was wondering that since its a discontinued model, do I insure it for the amount I payed for it, or do I insure it for the price that a 50D body would cost (seeing as thats the next in line so to speak)?

Im not sure how it works, and the last thing I want to do is something that can be deemed fraudulant!

Thanks guys

it will depend on your policy, but fundamentally if you drop your camera and break it you want to be in a position to go and replace it straight away so it makes sense that you insure it for the cost to replace with an equivalent model (ie the 50d)

But be aware that if you don't get new for old policy, then they will give you the market value for it- which will be less than the cost of a new 50d.

i have my 5dMKII insured on my home contents, had to call them first as i was only insured for any single item up to £1500
so explained to them how much it was and they added it to my policy for a coule quid.
So i would check with your house insurance first as it should be covered.
just make sure it old for new then they will get you the next one up or equivelent model
mind you my policy is all risks so it insured for out side not just in the house
