Hi,
Im doing my first wedding on saturday, and have borrowed my friends 40D as a backup to my 7D. But what the hell is going on with the on switch??

OFF
ON

I can understand, but a little line after ON, whats that about

Any light shed would be great :D

Thanks

It lets you use the wheel just above it. That's what the / line is pointing to. You can use it for changing settings in various modes. For example I think it does Aperture in M mode, and the top one does shutter speed.

Actually, I use it all the time.

To be honest, i'm not sure why you wouldn't want to use it!?

The little line after the ON position brings the rear dial into play (it points towards it).
So, if for example, you are using it on manual, it will allow you to use it to adjust the aperture and use the top dial for the shutter speed. Or vice versa. Normally this dial isn't used except to adjust a setting in conjunction with the top buttons, so to stop inadvertant turning, it is switched out.

Correct, although i thought that feature would have been on the 7D to.

The same feature on the 7D is on two switches rather than one.

The 7D has the lock function by the wheel, with the power switch on the top plate. The 20/30/40/50D has it built in the power switch which is down near the wheel.

Off
On (camera on, wheel locked for exposure compensation)
Unlocked (camera on, wheel unlocked for exp. comp.)

Thanks Guys

thought it would have been something useful, but just didnt know :) :)
