There is nothing to find out,

its a 2.8 with a 2xTC its 5.6

All Canon Bodies Crop and FF work fine with alens with a 5.6 minimum aperture, so hence it works fine, as would any other 2.8 lens with a 2x tc

Another related question! Is it only the 1dx bodies that can focus at f/8 with a tele converter?
 
Yes and no. They are the only Canon bodies that will AF with a lens that has a maximum aperture smaller than f/5.6. A tele converter changes the lens so a f/4 lens with a 2x TC will become a f/8 lens and will only AF on the 1-series bodies. Just for clarification, it doesn't matter what aperture you shoot at, only the max aperture available from the lens+tc combo (as AF always happens with the lens wide open).

But the new 1Dx can't do that.. the older 1D and 1Ds mk 1-4 can.
