With what model did Canon make the change from crop-format to FX in it's top end DSLR?

1Ds is full frame (always has been)
5D is full frame (always has been)
1D is 1.3 crop (always has been)

And you can pick up an early 1DS at a good price, I have thought about it, but wonder what it will give me over my 7D, as they are so far apart in technology terms....
