hey folks just a quicky so i have set my white balance for indoor photography using my grey card and the pics turn out good, however as soon as i attach my flash light canon 430ex and use it the colours are all muddled up, why is this?

Because you're dealing with multiple light sources with different colour temperatures.
You're measuring the ambient white balance with the grey card, and then overpowering it with the light from the flash which has a different white balance.
Either balance the flash colour temperature with gels as already suggested (that's the proper way); or go with the Flash white balance, overpower ambient with the flash and accept that the ambient background might get a bit funky.
