Quick uploading to Flickr help please

Do you need to have them up there at full size? I'd re-size them down to 800px on the longest side. That will shrink the file size and speed things up.

I've been having such a mare with it - my images are all around 3000x4000 - is this why it takes so long? Do I need to compress them, and if so, how? I have the Flickr Uploadr on my desktop.

If this seems stupid, please forgive me, I'm new to all this!

Are you using the flickr uploader? See http://www.flickr.com/tools/uploadr/
Although each picture will take about the same time you can load a number of them at a time and then do something else why they are being uploaded.

Uploading them this size is like giving them away anyone can and will download them and have printable images.
You only need screen size like say 800pix wide much faster and not too big for printing

Not if you disable full-size downloads...then they can only right-click and save whatever's showing - at screen resolution...and if you're that bothered about image-theft, YTF upload them to anywhere in the first place?

l use Flickr for storing my images full size. l have all my work private, so visible to no one...and any l want people to see l resize to small and useless....even if they can be bothered to get past the protection Flickr offers.

i upload mine at full size albeit 2280X1580 ...6x4 in other words as they come out of the camera ..around 2.7Mb
i am patient and let flikr do its stuff...its worth it...and you're worth it..unquote
to get a good shot online

i use mine for sales...so i want my potential buyer to see all the detail etc

Having problems with flickr uploadr and windows 7- not sure if anyone else has the same issue(s).
nope, no problems at all here under 7.

yeah, you can control it on a basic level :] however, i'd like to be able to prevent people downloading the file but provide them with the ability to see the "All Sizes" button :(
