A sad sad day - was trying to take the seemingly welded on UV filter off, and it asploded!

And also, a shot from this morning taken with the very thing!

New photos as a result of the assplosion:

To me, it suggests some sort of anal explosion.

+1

I guess this would be a good excuse to move up to the 1.4 then ;)

It would, if I weren't skint! To be honest I hadn't used the 50 as much as I'd have liked because of its softness @ 1.8, rendering it quite useless since I can just use the 18-55 if I'm going to use anything above F/3.5. Is the 1.4 sharp wide open?

sharp ish

and miles sharper than an 18-55 at any aperture :p

but I woulda thought a 50/1.8 at f2.8 would kick an 18-55 into touch aswell

I love childish words used randomly like that. Can just see his poor little face.:(

:(

Update: My computer monitor just also tried to commit suicide but I managed to revive it - today isn't going well! Already been to a surfing contest to shoot to only find everyone sat down watching a ruler flat sea.

There is 'wanted' thread somewhere from someone looking for broken lenses.

Not sure if this is what he had in mind though

great pic great lens
I have one but mine makes lots noises hard to auto focus but
it has not asploded! yet :0)

I think assploded is the best word ever used on TP

To me, it suggests some sort of anal explosion.

Guess you can add that to the list of reasons why you shouldn't use a UV filter.

Still, if it had to happen to any lens...

so thats what they look like inside

On a side note; did you get the filter off or is it still stuck on the front. :D

Oh how the TP humour never fails to amaze me :lol::lol:

wedge it back together stick it on ebay as not working and some idiot will probably pay 60-00 quid for it

'
nice shot. ....like the eye ................:lol::lol::lol:

Gillette's product is cheaper than Adobe's for correcting that.

It sure is, but I just know with my clumsiness it would be one of those "Oh i've nicked that side a little, i'll take a tiny bit from the other brow just to even it off" jobs. Soon ending with a pair of asploded eyebrows. :shake:

Ah, Saltburn. Hello fellow Boro northerner!

Put this junk in the bin and buy a Siggy 50mm f1.4.

Normanby,

I think the Sigma 50mm f1.4 is great.

I have a Canon 50mm f2.5 and that's good too but it's mechanically slower in operation than the Sigma. I haven't tried any other 50mm's.

sigma 50mm is reported to be a beast of a lens. supposedly better than the canon 50 1.4 at a price..

theres no way im taking that lens in a PX deal for my 5D now, lol :bonk:

sorry to hear about the damaged lens!
