R1C1 Users.....

Is anyone here lucky enough to have the cash to own one of these setups?

Im very new to Macro and being a bit of a kit w##re this lighting setup has taken my fancy. Currently trying and succeeding using a SB900 for lighting, but im holding it in the left hand and the D3, 105 Macro and Tubes in the right....

So its not the easiest of Macro setups to use, but i am getting results.

So who uses one and are they really as good as they look?

The situation i find myself in is that the SB900 is a little large and heavy to be using, so my original plan was to get a Sb600 and a Manfrotto "Magic Arm" and clamp it onto a tripod. Couple that with a Manfrotto 454 plate and im thinking its a pretty neat setup for focus stacking (which i want to try)

But, put the cost of an additional SB600 + the "Magic Arm" together and im over half way towards a second-hand R1C1 kit. Plus, the added fact that the SU800 would be useful for the two SB900's i currently have....

Thoughts? Discuss....

I'm doing exactly the same as you but only have 1 sb900. And I am a kit wh*re too.

but i think a 24-70 2.8 is ahead on my list.

Lol... i really wanted the Nikon 24-70 2.8 but my trusty sigma will do for now. These flashes look amazing, but are alot of money...

I had an R1 kit but didn't really like things screwed into the front of the lens and found the flash positioning a bit inflexible.
If you only want a single flash then consider the humble SB-400 which has quite enough power for the job and is easier to mount on third-party backets than the SB-R200. This was my D90 setup but I'm now playing with a dual-flash flexi-bracket off the bay (not with two SB-400s!).
