Hello:

I'm getting on fine with my camera these days but I still have trouble making it do what I want.

My biggest niggle atm is the flippy out screen.
I only ever use it for menu settings or for Q menu changes. For everything else I use the viewfinder.

What I'd like to do is have the rear screen facing out but not on until I press Q or Menu for instance.
Sadly, every time I take my eye away from the viewfinder, the EVF switches off and the main screen comes on.

I can switch the flippy screen off in one of the menu tabs but then it never comes on regardless of button pressing.
Am I missing something or do I just have to live with this.

I wonder if a bit of duck tape over the sensor would do the job?

I have the r not the r5, but have an option in the menu to assign which screen (lcd or evf) is on via a button. I use the button next to the one I use for BBF to switch them, when a button is assigned it disables the sensor.

Again, i found it flipping at odd times and very awkward when shooting video.

Oooo! that's interesting.
Can you let me know where to find those options in the menu structure?

Thanks.

Menu, SET UP4 (spanner icon page 4), display settings.

In that menu set display control to manual.

Then C.Fn4:OPERATION (camera icon page 4), customise buttons.

Assign a button any button you want to switch between VF/screen (make sure you set this the same for video and for stills, as muscle memory kicks in and you only want one button to remember!).
