RAF Waddington 2012

Hi guys, it's taken me a while to upload these photos to photobucket but I've finally got around to it so here is my pick of the massive amount that I took.

I was using my Canon 550d, generally on sport mode and using my Canon 55-250 (Nifty 250).

Any constructive critisism is welcome but please take it easy as I'm very new to this.

Thanks very much.

By the way I thought I would also add that these images are exactly as I took them. I have absolutely no idea how to use Photoshop so I haven't done a thing to them.

Do you think that could be something to do with my lens or could it be using sport mode?

Which lens did you use to take these? Great shots, particularly like the arrows mid cross over.

I was using my Canon 55-250 (Nifty 250) which I bought from kerso who is a trader on here.

i would say its down to using sport mode.

Try using the following settings for your camera:

Camera Mode: Shutter-speed Priority (Tv)
Shutter Speed: 1/1250th minimum for jets and 1/250th for prop aircraft
Focus Points: Canon All Active
Auto Focus Mode: Continuous (AI Serv)
Metering Mode: Evaluative

I was at Waddington as well and I think the problem could of been the 'sport' mode on the camera combined with the poor weather and bad light. I really like the Reds crossover and the F18 shots but they could of been better without the sport mode I think. Not a bad start at aviation shots though, it's harder than it looks. I had a 5D3 and Sigma 150-500 OS (which isn't the fastest of lenses at f6.3 wide open) and I had my camera set to :

TV for jets between 1/800 and 1/1250 and between 1/200 and 1/250 for props (depending on how I wanted the prop blur).
AI Servo and central cluster AF points (9 in a small central square on 5D3)
Spot metering and Ex Comp from 0 to 1 2/3 and metering on the plane.

I managed to get quite a few decent shots on the sunday (worst day weather wise) including these at roughly the above settings. These are SOOC and only cropped with no other PP.
