RAF100 London Flypast

I work in Knightsbridge, so it was a half hour walk to the Mall for me. But it was so busy by the time I get there that I ended up almost exactly where I didn't want to be.

Shooting into the sun (what little there was) slightly off to the left.

I took my Tamron 24-70 and Canon 70-300. I settled on the 70-300 while I was down there and it was ideal for everything bar the Typhoons as it wasn't wide enough.

Don't think I've got anything good, but I enjoyed it though.

A Lancaster and I think a Comet flew over here earlier.
I was over the park walking the dog and my camera was at home, typical.

Have you time travelled Daz to the 50th anniversary? When was the last flight of a Comet airframe? 2010-11?

Well I did say "think" :p
Plus in my defence it was further from view than the Lancaster was :D

THIS is what I saw from Hyde Park with 35mm DX .... I wasn't really expecting to see anything, well, I was hoping to see an air ambulance!

Well that didn't quite work out as well as expected... got to my chosen location with a good 30 mins to spare. Hawk came through about 12:10 checking the cloud base but was a good 500m South of me, so I thought well looks like they will be bang on for their usual line through Chelmsford.

I followed the Lanc and Dakota in on my tracking app and to my horror the flight line was 2KM north of where I was :( Unusually the flightline stuck to the actual planned straight line between the Fairlop and Colchester waypoints, I had the advantage of height but not range, though I think seeing the heat haze in some of my pictures, even a larger lens than a 300 on DX wouldn't have helped.

We had the Dakota doing circuits of West Chelmsford and the Lanc with its fighter escort of Spitfires and Hurricanes doing circuits of East Chelmsford - probably about 3 trips round and both fairly distant from me. If you were in Broomfield or Springfield areas you would have had a great (if underneath) view. Hylands Park might have been just about right I think...

Around 12:45 they lined up to head to the Mall and the rest came over.

My planned attempt at capturing some prop blur facilitated mostly plane blur and the remaining aircraft suffered from heat haze from the distance and crop to get a picture... so whilst it was a magnificent sight I was a little disappointed.

There was at least 40 people out to view it where I had chosen and they all seemed happy to see the spectacle.

Here are some I've just grabbed SOOC and converted to JPEG with a tiny bit of PP

ETA - I adjusted the exposure on my monitor at work, and already I can see that some of them are very dark. I'd forgotten how bright my (and rubbish) my work monitor is.

Thought this hat was great:

I like the graphic nature of the composition of this:

I set up my camera originally to 1000, ISO 400, F stop auto (as I've not done planes before and googled the settings) and it froze the props. So as they went over the top of me I quickly changed it to around 1/125 to get some blur.

Again, quite liked the graphic nature of this:

Just a thought as I don't think William and Harry were present, I wonder if they were piloting helicopters?

Glad to see some of you had a bit of blue sky. I watched from Fairlop waters a great view but god they sky was yuk

I could have done with something interesting in the background in mine. It was slightly better once they got behind me, but not great.

Ironically, by the time I got back to the office, it was all much brighter.

Some sod organised a meeting between 1 and 2 = I was hoping to see the remnants between Windsor and Maidendead.

I put a fake meeting in my diary so no one else could put one in.

Wish the sky was not grey..[emoji15]
