Hi Folks, looking for some info. Need a rain cover for my Canon 1D MKIV and 70-200mm .I will be using it to cover football.looking for something that is closed at the back, maybe something like Canon Erc-E4s. Has anybody got any recommendations

If you want probably the best then look at think tank hydrophobia. Pricy but recently saw someone using one in very heavy rain, sleet and snow and camera came out as dry as it went in.

Need to get something,at weekend my lens was covered but water got into camera . Now the lcd screen has packed in and will have to send it to canon. Not all bad news the team won their first game of the season and i caught the action.

Op Tech Rainsleeves are cheap and effective.

Guess it depends on what you want from a cover. And how much you want to pay. I try to buy once. To me an op tech rain sleeve is for very occasional use. I carry one myself for just that purpose. But like everything pretty much you get what you pay for. The think tank is in a different league. I know who spent the least time cleaning their camera the other day and that's convinced me of its worth.

Hi Gary, the think tank looks the thing. will have to decide to only use 1 camera in the heavy rain, the 70-200 or the 300.

For fully enclosing the camera the thinktank has the edge over other brands. I've used one and it worked well. The only issue is the clear plastic backing mists up over time but it can be easily cleaned with plastic polish http://www.amazon.co.uk/Meguiars-PlastX-Plastic-Polish-296/dp/B0000AY3SR

I did sell of the thinktank only because a big black cover isn't the best colour for wildlife otherwise I would still be using it. I now have a lenscoat rain cover, it's a good compromise between the think tank and other brands. The open back is pain as you have to be careful or use a optech cover just to cover the back of the camera.

The optech rain covers are a good emergency cover to always keep in the backpack in case one is needed.

I would be checking the seal on the mount of your lens. I've had 1D III, IV and now X out in stupid conditions for hours at events and never had an issue.

When I have the lens serviced they always renew the weather seal on the mount.

all my gear is weather sealed..But I always use rain covers

thinktank is by far your best option but not only the cover you also need to buy an eyepiece as will be shon whenyou buy from a decent place.
