Yes
Is 4gb of ram enough for photoshop elements 10 and general use on a pc?

Looking to upgrade my system from 2gb but feeling going upto 8gb might be overkill?

Assuming Win7 x64, 8G is better as it can use any unused memory as a filesystem cache.

As Neil says, a 32 bit OS will see < 4G however much is in there

I have been using 4gb and just upgraded to 8gb today as I was feeling things were a little sluggish when moving between Lightroom and photoshop.

Elements 10 is still only 32bit software so it only make use of 4GB running win 7 64bit

Never knew that so looks like anything more than 4gb and updating to Windows 7 will be a waste of money I could put towards better glass.:)

I took the risk of buying Elements 10 as i couldnt find out anywhere if Adode had upgraded it to 64 bit, only after i got it installed and checked the preferences to see how Ram much i could allocate to it did i find out so ended up selling it and keeping Elements 9

It will only be able to use ~4G in it's own thread. Other programs, and the operating system, will take benefit of extra RAM. 64bit is the way forward as is more than 4G of RAM ;)
