Random acts of kindness

Yesterday I experienced an unexpected act of kindness. I received an email from a complete stranger telling me that he'd found the USB memory stick which I'd dropped on the street in central London a week or so ago. He'd found my email address in a file on the stick but wasn't sure where/how to send it back to me.

Today I repaid him, sort of. On the way to the post office I found an unopened letter in the street; addressed, not stamped, and bearing several footprints. Somebody probably dropped it on their way to the post office. So I stuck a stamp on it and posted it.

I think the world would be a better place if there were more random acts of kindness. Have you experienced one or committed one recently? Care to tell us about it?

good to be reminded that there are one or two decent peoplpe out there!

Weeeeell... I do hope youve realised that you have now given me the opportunity for a good moan!

I did experience an act of kindness last week... my moby was jostled from my pocket on boarding a plane, and some kind soul handed it in to the stewardess.
Despite several announcements I didnt realise the phone was mine until the phone had been taken off the plane and the door shut.
Oncce in the air the stewardess assured me that a radio conversation ensured my moby would be waiting for me at 'lost property' on my return ... it wasnt and the staff were very rude when I insisted that going through insurance wasnt really the point as my moby had now effectively been stolen!
Also got back to find a nice bit of credit card cloning had netted someone a top of the range lappy and some goodies from Texas ... you could say Im not really feeling the lurve right now! :shake:

Kindness........pah

The finder of the USB stick has your personal details and will stalk you forever now.......the un posted letter was bound to be bad news.......possibly even a ransom note :D

Glo.....thanks for the lappy chuck, the fones a bit naff though so I sold it :D

Ive decided if you cant beat em, join em... think I'll start by trying my hand in your pockets at Focus! :D

does that mean your going to bring something to stand on, I don't have pockets at knee height.

:runaway:

Mmmm just mentioned this to Mrs Galaxy and she is adamant she is not going to use hers any more after M&S card services intercepted the £2600 KLM airline tickets drawn on her card
Hope it is all sorted for you.

Getting back on topic I have never been on the receiving end of some real honest kindness but that will not change me.

Thank you, :)
Sadly from what I hear this sort of fraud is definately on the increase. Be interesting to find out if the bank bother to trace the laptop delivery addy (it was bought online).

I have been on the receiving end of some very kind gestures over the years.
Unfortunately these days the opposite kind of behaviour seems to be the reason that makes the small & simple acts of kindness stand out so much.

In recent years I've found two mobile phones that have been left behind on trains, and both times I've been able to return them to their owners.

Over the same period I've left my mobile phone behind on a train twice. Both times it was returned to me.

Sow, and ye shall reap?

(And yes, of course, there have been times when I've lost things and they haven't been returned. But why dwell on that? My glass is definitely half full.)

Maybe I just live in the wrong part of the country

Actually, I just rembered a very recent act of kindness that I witnessed.
On a crowded bus just outside Venice, a woman stood up to get off, she noticed the belt was missing on her coat and in broken English asked the German couple next to her if it was under the seat, they looked, couldnt see it & reluctantly she got off the bus without it.
As we started off, a young girl opposite spotted the belt at the back of the seat, the belt was passed along the crowded bus, someone shouted to the driver to pull over. Driver opened the doors, and a girl near the door began to shout after the woman who didnt hear her. Another girl took the belt and again in broken English called out to the woman who again didnt respond. She got off the bus & ran after the woman, who was pleased to get her belt back.
Only a small thing really but all this happened on a hideously crowded bus, of mixed nationalities on a very busy road ... a nice, good for the spirit kind of moment.

A friend of mine was driving, when he witnessed a bloke get knocked off his bike, quite badly !! The driver of the car who hit him drove away.

My friend pulled over next to the fella to see if he was ok.

He said he was, just about, and once dusted off; asked my mate for his details so he could give a statement. (the biker had gotten the reg of the car that hit him).

My friend duly complied and went on his way.

About a week later, he got a court summons, the charge ?? Knocking a fella off his bike and failing to stop !!!

FFS, you try and do a good deed and it lands you in court with a hefty fine etc etc.

My mate got away with it fortunately but needless to say, he's had it with doing good deeds....

I'm not doing anymore.

Just before Christmas I was in the Eastgate shopping centre in Inverness. For anyone who knows it, the top floor, just in front of M&S and heading towards Argos at the far end.

Right, in a hurry, need to get stuff done and I hear "excuse me" a couple of times.

A middle aged lady with a shopping trolley is standing there, obviously distressed and there's a lot of people going past her, totally ignoring her.

So, I stopped, ask what's wrong and she explains that she's got MS and that's why she had the trolley for a bit of support. However, there's a slope there and she doesn't have the strength to go up it. Would I mind giving her a hand? No problem :)

What I didn't know that it was going to take a good 30/40 minutes to go from the bottom of the slope, up to the opticians.

Okay, it's only time, no harm done. On the way though she mentioned how she loves Thorntons Chocolate caramels but the shops too busy for her to go in with the trolley, "would you mind going in for me?" By this time it's too late to say no so I checked the type she wanted and she gave me a couple of quid. The chocolates came to £2.49 and I didn't have the heart to tell her

By this time it's in for a penny, in for a pound so when she asked me to escort her back to her car I just went with the flow. Into the lifts, "No problem, I'll carry the bags" where's your car and I'll get everything loaded up for you. It's a green Saxo, reg no ??????? Oh, and her parking ticket was £2, she only had about 50p in her purse so guess who paid :D

I walked round and round that carpark trying to find that car and eventually gave up. By this time security were wondering what I was doing and so I explained it to them. They had a good laugh and said "oh, that's Mrs so and so. She'll most likely have given you the wrong registration, leave it with us and we'll sort her out"

So, I didn't have time to get the presents I had to get, didn't get lunch and it cost me about £2.50.

100% true :)

"you'll get your reward in heaven"

=

"as sure as **** you won't get it down here"

Yeah - all the time. Karma. Needs to be done.

Once in Australia I literally gave my top to a guy who called out to say he liked it. Heck, he was living on the street. I was not.

Just went back to my place and put on another one.

It gives you a nice warm feeling to do something unexpectedly generous.

Shamefully, i cannot remember the last time i did such a thing. :(

I can however remember the last time something nice was done for me, and it was DiddyDave buying me a Coke at a crowded bar and not accepting payment for it, Top Bloke. :)
