Sorry about this, just a rant i need to get off my chest :/

Do cameras ever meter right. I've been shooting my D100 past 2 weeks while in Tunisia, and like all of my pictures have metered wrong. My exposure is fine, and its happens in every mode P/AV/TV/M :/ I just can't get anything good out of the camera, and it never seems to be doing what i want it to :/

The thing that gets to me most is that if i go back to camera that doesn't have metering (ie. one of my film bodys), i can shoot film and provided i get my exposure right( which i do most of the time ) the picture is fine!

Its so frustrating seeing all of these great pictures on the fourms, and when i go to take anything it comes out like 'carp' :) :/

I've got no idea if its just me and this camera, or anything, i just keep getting the feeling that i should sell everything up and just buy a point and shoot :/

I'm a bit confused... Is it metering correctly or not? Either the exposure is as you want it or it isn't :shrug:

Not quite sure what metered wrong but exposure is fine means but I'm assuming exposure IS the issue??

Are you sure you are nailing the exposure with the film camera or is it the printer that is making the corrections for you. Film has more latitude than digital and the latter can be trickier to nail in difficult conditions.

For instance, a beach scene on a sunny day with lots of white sand will fool the meter into under exposure as it attempts to make the overall scene mid grey tone. In these situations, you cannot blame the camera but need to broaden your understanding of what the meter is actually telling you.

Perhaps your camera IS faulty, but I used D100's for 2 years shooting weddings back around 2003 ish and the metering was pretty reliable on mine.

Can you post up some examples of what you mean.

Those are Canon references, Nikon would be P/A/S/M, must say my recent digital Nikons have been pretty reliable in all modes.

Have you altered the +/- AV adjustment and not reset it to 0
