Raw files with a Panasonic GX7 - help please?

Hi there. Just been to Slimbridge to try out my GX7 with the birds and my Mac doesn't show the raw files - it's an original version of I photo but they are not showing on my Mac Air which has a more recent version…. can anybody help me out please? Fingers crossed.

I take you tried to see if their an upgrade for I-photo, if not you can always install the software that came with the camera

RAW compatibility under OS X is not provided by the application but by the operating system. The GX7 was included in version 5.01 of the Camera RAW updater if you search on the apple website. That was release on November 12 2013. Since then many more updates have been provided.

Have you updated your Macs at all? If you've done that after you've imported them, you may have to reprocess those RAW files such that they'll show properly...
 
Hi there - thanks for your reply. Does this mean that I need to update my operating system completely - I think it's snow leopard now, or something like that. As you can see, not very up on such matters. Is the camera Raw within that system? My images usually go into I photo then I take them into Aperture, the ones I want to work with.

Unfortunately yes. Snow Leopard is now several versions behind. When you take a look at the system requirements for camera raw is states version 10.8.5 as a minimum, and you are on 10.6.x...and the current version is 10.9.x.....

So normally you don't have to do a full upgrade, but you are unfortunately on a very old version of the operating system. The alternative would to use the panasonic software, convert raw to tiff and import that....Or use the Adobe DNG converter and convert the panasonic format into dng and then read that....
 
Ok thanks. I think I will upgrade my mac operating system and then the I photo. . And then I will try again. Maybe my name should be Reluctant PP!? I know I need to get a handle on this stuff. Will have a load more time come October and then I will be all over it,like a rash, going for my A with the RPS. Thanks for the help.

Hi there. I went to the apple dealer who sold me my mac and he confirmed I need to upgrade, so. I might go the whole hog and upgrade the mac too as there is talk of trade ins soon... Thanks for helping.
 
No problem. Just wait indeed with upgrading. There should be new models announced this week at their big developers conference.
