Raynox 150 or 250 ?

Hi all,

I keep reading good things about these Raynox macro adaptors, and want to order one for when I take macro photography (which isnt often enough to justify buying a dedicated macro lens)

The lenses I have are

Tamron 28-75mm 2.8
Canon 70-300 IS USM
Canon 50mm f1.8

Which of these lenses would it work best with, and which is the better one to go for, the Raynox 150 or the 250?

I bought the 150 and very happy with it. I chose it over the 250 as I have seen quite a lot of people say how extremely shallow the DOF is with the 250. The 150 does the job fine for me. I'd use it with your 70-300mm, at wider focal lengths you can get vignetting.
 
I've got the 250 which is very good indeed.

I got the 250 to use with my 50mm f/1.8 and I thought the 150 would be too short for the 50mm. It works wonderfully on my 50mm and 55-250, but it does have very narrow DOF!
 
Jim - You're using a crop sensor camera and Nick is using a full frame sensor so your 50mm will be similar to 75mm on Nicks camera. Using the raynox with his 50mm on the 5D would be similar to you using the raynox on a 35mm with your 50D. He'll get vignetting.

Well pointed out! Couldn't see what he was shooting on as I'm on my iPhone at the mo.
 
Depends how close you want to go. 150 for flowers and butterflies, 250 for bugs.
