raynox dcr-250 and extension tubes ?

i got a raynox 250 about 10 days ago and its brilliant. The only problem is that I have to get so close to bugs that they're often scared off.

As I cant afford a macro lens, could i use (eg ) Polaroid tubes as well to combine with the raynox ?

Sorry if this seems like a silly question but I have no idea if i'd get better magnification ( I'd be using a 35mm or a 70-300 ) and if i'd be able to shoot from further away than 4 inches or not :shrug:

I have to get closer to the subject when I use extension tubes. I'm not sure how the raynox would affect it but would imagine you'd need to be even closer if using it in tandem with extension tubes.

I've heard of people using a telephoto extender to get more distance from the subject but then you're talking more expense.

I think the Raynox has a fixed focus, so it makes no difference.

So my best option is a new lens then ? Darn it...
