RC-1 Remote Controller for Canon

Just bought one of these controllers from ebay.

The description said it would work with a Canon 1000D but I can't seem to get it to work.

Am I doing something wrong, or does it just not work with this camera.

Help please.

The 1000D doesn't have an IR receiver....see page 164 of your User Guide.
