Introducing a new forum Forums-> Ideas and Inspiration-> Photographic Concepts

This is a forum for people who like to chew the fat over more esoteric, artsy, philosophical, etc. concepts about photography as a visual medium. If you enjoy serious, deep and thoughtful discussion then if you set a watch on this forum you will be notified of new threads that might be of interest.

This forum will be policed. All too often deep, thoughtful and artsy threads on here are subject to trolling and inane posts by people who have no interest in serious discussion and just want to keep shouting variations of "emperor's new clothes". We have all heard those arguments and understand them and have moved on.

Feel free to post new threads in this forum

A few pointers for guidance of what is acceptable and expected

• Be open minded, being willing to listen to others and learn
• Be progressive, move the debate forwards
• Read some of the canonical works first (see post #3 below). It is not acceptable to start arguing without any background knowledge like a spoiled toddler
• Do not keep repeating the same things over and over. People can read, they will have read your post and if you got no response that is because they have no view on it or do not consider it relevant.
• Do not argue for the sake of it, if people disagree with you then arguing will not change their minds

Is there a place for a reading list in this section? If the mods think this is a good idea please feel free to edit it or otherwise tidy it up if it goes anywhere. I'll kick it off with a few I've read (which doesn't mean I'm recommending them!) and there are plenty more which could be added...
