Readyboost not working. help!

hi. I have just bought a transcend 8gb class 10 (20mbps) SD card, specifically for readyboosting my laptop.

The card had readyboost compatible all over the advert, but my laptop says it cannot be used for readyboost.

I have an Asus K40C / K50C series, running 64bit windows 7. i am putting the SD card directly into the slot at the front of the laptop.

Can anyone offer any help? I'm sure both the card and card reader should be fast enough to support readyboost...

Wondering if you have moved the lock thingie on the card?

I use a Transcend 8Gb class 6 on my netbook and it works fine.

Maybe you need to format the card first?

Thanks Mike, I should have mentioned before, I tried to use the card without formatting, then did a quick format to exFAT, and tried again with no luck.
The lock switch is set to unlock too

Perhaps it's not seeing it as fast enough. It test writes to the drive before offering the option. Might be worth having a browse of: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/using-windows-readyboost-to-increase-performance/

Mine is FAT32.

If I remember correctly, I had it formatted in camera then stuck it in the netbook and answered yes when it asked if I wanted Readyboost.

just done a full (not quick) format in fat32, same issue. event viewer shows the testing fails at least 6 times (transfer rate of 0mbps), then on about the 7th it tests at about 2000kbps.

I guess this could mean 1 of 2 things - 1. 2000kbps isnt fast enough, meaning my SD reader isn't fast enough? or 2. it is fast enough but theres another issue?

is there any reason why you dont want to upgrade the memory? youll see a far nicer performance increase and DIMMs for that laptop are fairly inexpensive.

Yes it is a built in reader, I have tried with a different card too.

just checked the spec, it has 3gb ram and a Pentium Celeron D 220 processor, I'm now wondering if readyboost wont help the speed, and that the processor is the problem?

Have never been convinced of any increased performance on my netbook with Readyboost.

Have just done the ready boost on my desk top. 1 question can i leave usb pen drive in all the time ??
