If you remember I was undecided about accepting my wifes offer of either the D3 or 200mm F2 due to my recent redundancy, well I decided to graciously accept :D and went for the D3 :) which she bought yesterday along with an extra battery, I was busy last night so just removed the battery from the box and put it on charge leaving everything else alone until today for when I had the time for a play, removed the camera from the box late this morning and it's covered in fingerprints :( She was assured when she bought it that it had not been opened !! I know it would soon have had my prints all over it but thats not the point, I don't know what else has been touched or if it has even been used.
Phoned the shop concerned and have been instructed to return it for an exchange so another 60 mile trip tomorrow before I actually have a play :bang:
Then I have to decide whether to keep the 300 or the 90 as a back-up jobbie

Keep the 300 as your backup. I have the same pair and they go together nicely. The D300 for crop sensor requirements and the D3 for everthing else.
Once you're happy with the new camera, you wont want to put it down either. No wonder the fairies got into the box to look at it! Sounds like they couldn't put it down either! ;)

Cheers Kev, I would like to keep the 300 but Gina's suggesting the 90 because of the weight but I think I'll manage to convince her ;)
Annoying about the D3, I've bought all my other cameras from them with no bother, obviously been out on display at some point.

The trouble is, if they have one on stock then people are going to want to take it out and have a hold of it. Its probably Canon owners wanting to see what perfection felt like. ;) :D
I'd be tempted to pop a card in and take a shot. See what shutter count it has before taking it back. If it hasn't fired, is it worth the 60 miles?
Either way you are going to be one happy man when you get to use a D3 in anger!

It's going back, they have one out on show, I had a good play with it previously, must have fired off around a 100 shots or so myself :suspect: and I've been there before when the salesmen demo them for the customers and I certainly wouldn't want one of those, lenses coming off peering inside etc etc :lol:
Just can't wait, I'll probably be there when they open up in the morning
