Really good 2nd hand camera shops

Yes
I was really blown away by a recent visit to the real camera company in Manchester; never seen a shop with so much decent second hand stock, cane away with a couple if nice lenses. But I live in the south west so it's not exactly on my doorstep. Are there are other shops with a similar range of second hand stock? I do get about a bit for work so other cities are a possibility.

Forgot to mention, mostly looking for film era stuff. MPB look great but think they are digital-only? :)

Mifsuds in Brixham are good and in southwest, LCE In Bath have always been helpful and knowledgable in Bath when I've visited, not the biggest shop though.

They are very near to me, but like many camera shops these days their film-era stock is almost non-existent. I should have mentioned I'm mainly interested in film...

I haven't physically visited Mifsuds or any LCE locations, as I'm Glasgow based, but both Mifsuds and LCE have plenty of film cameras, lenses, and accessories on their websites, so I would assume that they must have something in their stores too.

Ah ok didn't know that sorry although last time I was in there they had a fair few bits of film kit (could have been junk though as I don't know film kit sorry)

Harrisons in Sheffield.

Another vote for Ffordes. I've visited several times and there's a huge selection of both digital and film equipment. The guys behind the counter are pleasant and happy to spend time with you . The last time I was in there was a chap who'd travelled over from Ireland just to buy video equipment and had a camera and a pile of lenses by the time I left.

Unfortunately the camera I wanted was sold on the phone as I waited in the queue.

MPB are OK but they do not bother to clean up anything before selling it. So therefore how can they tell properly what condition it is in. I purchased a lens and after cleaning it the cloth was filthy.

Camerex in Exeter have a selection of old film cameras and lenses, it's just a matter of finding them open! Devon Camera Centre used to get film stuff in occasionally until their demise a few months ago and LCE get a bit from time to time.

Got my old FE2 and MD12 motodrive sat in a cupboard here if anyone wants it - not seen the light of day for years. FE2 in it's box. MD12 loose.

Ronald White in Maidstone always has a large selection of second hand film equipment, particularly lenses. They can be a little bit pricey, especially new equipment but normally have a large selection of lenses for sale.

Mifsuds definitely have plenty of film cameras, 35mm and medium format. Was in there in March and bought a Mamiya RB67 - will be back in Brixham in a couple of weeks and my wife is trying to find reasons for us to be elsewhere during their opening hours!

Grays of Westminster only been once but superb

Grays are supposed to be very good, but are exclusively Nikon (at least that's what their advertising suggests).

Thanks for all the tip-offs; some good suggestions there.

Ffordes looks amazing – sadly about as accessible to me (Wiltshire) as the surface of the moon.

Longworth looks more accessible, but Cardiff looks really easy (direct train from local station), as does Castle Cameras (same train in opposite direction). And on the odd occasion when I’m in The Smoke Grays looks good.

Oh, and I have an FE so its Nikon all the way as far as film goes – as it should be :nikon:. Also got an 1100D though, so you can’t say I’m not even-handed. When I get some Nikon glass I intend to bolt it onto the 1100D just to nark off the purists ;-)

SRS in Watford are pretty good also. They specialise in Pentax, Olympus, and Nikon. No Fuji or Canon (except maybe second-hand).
