Really need some feedback on a portfolio site!

Hi,
Some great shots on your site. My feedback:
The 'portfolio' page doesn't seem coherent with the rest of the site. The navigation bars change and the layout is different. My preference would be to keep the horizontal layout arrangement that you have, but to add the main menus from the rest of the site. When you're looking at the portfolio you still want to be able to choose the category of photo (e.g. landscapes, film etc).
I also found that as I was scrolling across the portfolio page I wasn't sure how the photo I was looking at related to the shot number links at the bottom. It would be neat if the links along the bottom highlighted which shot you were looking at, or the easier route of adding numbers above/beside each individual photo.

What are you reasons for a dedicated 'portfolio' page? The rest of your site is easy to navigate and find photos by category etc so what is the portfolio doing that the rest of the site isn't? [please excuse me if this is a stupid question as I know very little about the world of art and photography, so a portfolio may be something required for getting jobs etc - I have no idea!)

Thanks for your feedback!

Navigation: The reason this is inconsistent is because the portfolio page isn't actually a page, but intended to be a separate site, which is as clean as possible with as few distractions as possible (i.e. not too many menu items). I could try and make the menus more consistent, though, at least the main one (i.e. the one with the "About" and "Contact" etc.).

Numbers: I can have a look at some sort of highlighting option. It'd be nice perhaps, for when you click a number, the image in question flashed or brightened for a few seconds. Not sure if this is possible, so I'll have a look at it. I'm not keen on adding actual numbers next to each photograph. Alternatively, I could make the numbers into simply dots. Don't know if this would be better? I.e. they're not numbered, it's just links to the various images? If you see what I mean...

It's not a stupid question! The reason for the portfolio page is simply to provide a quick, clean, relatively fast loading, uncluttered way of viewing ~40-50 of my best photographs (in my opinion) at a glance. It's supposed to provide someone very quickly with a glance at the sort of work I do. The main site showcases ALL my work, album by album, in categories (portraiture, photojournalism etc.). The portfolio is much more about giving a quick and straightforward representation of my work so far and what I'm all about.
