Reccomend a monopod please!!

Hi, looking to get a monopod for my 60d which will work well under the strain of my siggy 150-500!!
Taking pictures of birds mainly!
Budget not to sure don't really no what I need to spend to get value for money!
Sorry if this has been done but I haven't seen any threads since I've been on here and a search isn't coming up with much!!

Well although my current experience of the Manfrotto 685B that I purchased this morning has done little to warm me to this monopod they came very well recommended to me by 3 different semi pro sports togs who all swore by them. Not sure how much your kit weighs in total but it holds up to 8kg and costs around £100-120 depending on where you buy from.
 
Ok thanks, I no I didn't have an idea on price but this seems quite expensive! Does it tilt or is it fixed!!
 
I use a red snapper one with my d90 and same lens and get on well with it.

If your after something cheap that can still hold weight a manfrotto mm394 is worth a look. i use one with my 300 2.8 and 1d and dont have a problem. Holds up to 4.5kg and is only £25
 
Another vote for the Manfrotto 685B Neotec Monopod. It doesn't collapse into a handy length but nothing out there beats it for speed and ease of use.

I did a video review of it last year which you may view here


It's worth the extra effort shopping round for the best price. I picked mine up from Morris Photo through Amazon at under 3 figures. :thumbs:

Hi again Houston have you got a separate head with yours!! If so what is it please
 
I use a Giottos MML3270B with my Gripped 7D+Siggy 500 combo and it is solid as anything. If I'm out shooting for the day it will be attached the whole day, slung over my shoulder as I walk around the circuit etc.

I don't bother with a head, just tripod collar straight onto monopod.
 
I use a basic Manfrotto 680B with the RRS MH-01 monopod head. It easily handles a
500mm f/4.5 plus body with battery grip. I prefer the versatility of a head versus mounting the lens direct.

Thanks for the review. Helped make the decision for me. I've been using the Redsnapper referred to above but found it unreliable, occasionally slipping and requiring the re-placement (rather than replacement) of an inner plastic part when on one of the extension areas. Can't afford to take a chance on it again.

Be interested to no what you go for!!! I'm thinking the manfrotto 685b is the pod of choice but pricey with a head and QR!!!

Yep, my finger is over the trigger button now. Just trying to decide on the head.

You're right, it's a lot to fork out, but with a busy summer ahead it will be worth every penny.
