So as I haven't been on here for awhile I've had a look at all the recent threads and thought I'd just say hello again and say...

I've bought a second hand Sigma 17-70mm OS Macro....(bit late to ask but...good lens?)

Also I need a new flash compact card as I'm going to be shooting in RAW alot more - SANDISK 4GB COMPACT FLASH ULTRA MEMORY CARD ULTRA II - £13.75 from ebay?
 
My daughter bought a Sigma 17-70 OS new ten days ago and it front focussed something awful, tried it on my camera and with a tripod to make sure although it was obvious just hand held

Sent it back for a refund (which she got straight away including the return postage) and suggest you give it a good checking out if the sample my daughter had is anything to go by

Agree about the avoid Ebay advice, Premier Ink have always impressed me with their service and prices

I got two of these, but from Amazon. Arrived in about 2 days ( and i live on an island ) perhaps give Amazon a shot :)

Great cards though - with RAW about 9 shots continously until you have to wait, in JPEG ( for sports etc ) about 45/60!!
 
Thanks for the advice so far. Hopefully I'll get a good copy of the lens then! Point taken about ebay. 7dayshop is cheaper anyway by the looks of it :)

Was thinking...would I really need my 50mm 1.8 with the new 17-70mm?

take into consideration the data transfer rate between camera and card. As Adam said he had to wait after 9 RAW shots purely because the card wasn't fast enough. So look for a card with about 60MB/s on it or at least the Extreme 111. I recently took a look at the Sandisk Extreme Pro with 90MB/s but looking a little deeper unless you have top of the range camera it is pointless getting as most cameras can't transer at that rate. So I settled for the 16GB 60MB/s sandisk CF card (to back up my other CF cards) which is about the max most cameras need.

Can I recommend the Sandisk Extreme1V with either 4/8/16 GB with 45MB/s transfer rate. The Sandisk Ultra11 transfer rate is really too slow at 15MB/s.

Thanks for that input realspeed. Makes perfect sense. I'll look into something alittle faster. However i can't think of a time i've had a problem with speed in the past as i don't often take multiple shots. Not to say i won't in the future though as definately worth a look. Thanks again

Wow, however after having a brief look at the price of one of those its a little off putting. Was only looking to spend around £20-25. I know you get what you pay for but not being professional etc, i'll probably stick with the ultra.
