Hi All

For my birthday today I was luck to get an SB700 Nikon flash to replace the once that broke in a tragic skiing accident at Christmas (yes I will e more careful this time).
What are the best rechargeable batteries to get?

Eneloop are the ones I use for my sb800.
 
I use Sanyo Eneloops, tried 7dayshop normal rechargeable batteries but I can't just keep them in my bag incase I need them as they discharge rather quickly compared to the Eneloops.
 
Based on a thread over on POTN in which results of extensive testing were revealed and dissected I'd say....

Eneloops if you take a casual approach to using flash, only using it occasionally, and want to find your flash still good to go after sitting around for a few days/weeks. But they are a solid choice regardless of use pattern and charging regime.

However, if you have an OCD compulsion to fully charge your batteries the day (night) before a shoot then higher capacity batteries may serve you better as they should give you more pops before they have a chance to self discharge and leave you high and dry.

Eneloops are the safe bet overall though as they are less likely to give you a disappointing surprise.

If you're serious about your batteries it would also be worth investing in a quality "intelligent" battery charger rather than those fast chargers that are so commonly supplied. Fast charging means high heat and high heat means reduced lifespan.

Eneloop is just a trade name of sanyo, what your looking for are low self-discharge nickel-metal hydride batteries . Loads of good ones from many manufactors.

IMHO the charger is more important than the battery, so spend a bit more on getting a good one.

I use the 7dayshop version of the envelop technology, good to go I think. They're brilliant.

I've got loads of chargers, but without spending a fortune I'd also recommend 7dayshops new one that gives a proper view of the state of your batteries and also has a discharge mode for fixing batteries that need a little tlc.

I also have the BL-700 intelligent charger which charges slowly at 200mah, but did not realise until today that Sanyo also have their own range of chargers, including an "overnight" ~10 hour version at a very reasonable price of ~ £13.69 as it includes 4 AA Eneloop batteries.
- Search for the Sanyo MQN04 Overnight battery charger.
 
7dayshop "GOOD TO GO" Rechargeable ....no problems yet.
 
Eneloops, but stick with the 2000mAH ones. More reliable all round.
