recommend digital camera for novice

Hi

I want to buy my wife a digital camera, she is a novice with an interest in portraits and scenery. I bought her a little compact camera, we went to a park and she started taking pictures of squirrels, when we got home she found the pictures disappointing because she was trying to zoom in and it went blurry.

So I thought I would get her something which has a decent digital zoom and some kind of stabilizer for taking these kinds of shots as well as being good for portraits.

Here are some of the features needed:

30+ digital zoom
Fast at saving images to memory card
Can take good night shots (this is another problem she has had with her cameras)
Is fairly easy to use (she probably won’t be tinkering with manual settings much)

I don’t know if a compact camera can provide these features, so I thought perhaps a bridge camera can.

Can someone please recommend a camera? The budget is up to £200, If that isn’t enough for a new one, I could get one second hand.

thanks

Maybe the sx30 is? Not sure how much they are over there, but they have great features, 35x optical zoom and turn out very clear pictures most of the time. When you're zooming the picture can look a bit pixelated but when you actually take the photo they're usually very clear.

Oh, it's a bridge camera too - plus it's relatively compact in size.

Hey, that sx30 looks quite good, decent zoom and stabiliser and it looks easy to use. i will keep an eye on this one. thanks

My pleasure :-) its what I started with too!

I was just looking at examples of the zoom, i think we could take pictures of squirrels in the park without needing to leave the house :)

Hahaha probably!

I took this of the moon handheld with it:

Excuse the quality - I reduced the file size a lot before I uploaded it.

Very nice! :clap:I think you've sold it to me, also it can take hd video and looks easy to use. thanks a lot
