Can anyone recommend a really good guide for the D700? I'd like something that reads a bit easier then the manual and maybe has some examples of settings with photos kind of thing.

Yep this one HERE by no means small, but lot's of info and colour photos of settings etc etc, if you look around you may pick it up a bit cheaper than Amazon, i paid about £8.70 for mine, but it was on offer then, it's a fairly big thick manual packed with info, so still worth the £14.56 Amazon are now asking IMHO

Yip, got that one and Mastering the D700 (good).
I reckon David Busch's book linked above is the better of the two.
