Yes
for indoor and outdoor work, my main camera is a canon eos 500d.
i would like something that works well in low light, maybe zoom upto 135mm.
something like this perhaps?
Canon EF-S 18-135mm f3.5-5.6 IS Lens
I have a fashion show my company are running and would like me to take photos at in a few weeks and id like to build up my lens range too.
i will be using a jessops 360AFD flash.
many thanks.

Unfortunately there are not any super-zoom lens that work in low light. To have good low light ability you need to have a large aperture and the limit in zoom length for large apertures is around 3.3 x zoom (17-55mm IS).

I have not used the 18-135mm IS but at 135mm you will have a slow aperture of F5.6, this may not be appropriate for your needs.

If you need somehting at the telephoto lengths for fashion, and want a zoom, I would look to get the Sigma 50-150mm F2.8 EX. This has excellent portrait range and has a fast aperture of F2.8, this will work well in low light and ensure shutter speeds are kept up.

Tamron 28-75mm f2.8 SP Di (Canon AF)
that one seems to have good reviews?

It is supposed to be a pretty good lens - check the archive here

I know its a bit short but I really like the siggy 17-70 on my nikon, and will be getting one for my 50D if I can't stretch to an L series lens!

I used the older version siggy on my 20D and found it to be fantastic

For low light on a 500d and fashion shoots I would seriously consider the EF50 1.4 or the 80 1.8.

Hogwash.

70-200/2.8 any make (technically not a superzoom)

Sigma 120-300/2.8
and
Sigma 200-500/2.8

all come to mind, although the latter is probably a bit extreme for cat walk stuff!

Umm...

Super zoom by the definition above is the uper focal length more than 3.3x the lower focal length.

70-200 = 2.86x
120-300 = 2.5x
200-500 = 2.5x

All of which are not super zooms by that definition....

24-105mm L is a great walkaround lens, peforms well in low light and on a crop sensor like the 500d, will provide good range

Sorry I think you missed the point I was making, what I meant was you can't get a 18-135mm F2.8 lens. With a constant F2.8 aperture you are limited to a maximum of 3.3 x the base focal length, be it 120-300/2.8 or 17-55/2.8.

I think a 70-200 F2.8 would also be good for fashion photography, although it might be a bit short on a crop.

Not sure on the 24-105 F4L. It's 1 stop slower and I think for the money there are better lens out there for crop camera's.

Well if you want to be pedantic it's x5 not x 3.3, but you are right as I was reading superzoom as super-telephoto for some unknown reason! :)

budget will be approx £400 by the way, thanks for the advice so far, the show is linked to the Only Way is Essex ( my bosses manage a few of them) so i should be able to get fairly close so massive zoom not an issue :)

I'd go with the 50mm 1.8 and 85 1.8 TBH. They'll give you 1.3 stops more light than any of the zooms (so you can safely double shutter speed or halve ISO - although DoF might be limited), and both will come in under £400
