Recommend me a pouch

Yes
Not a bag, with zips and handles and things.

I simply want something light and smooth so that I can put my camera into my regular luggage or rucksack. (Usually a Lowe Alpine 45L or a big 60+10 rucksack).

I've looked at the Lower Pro Toploaders (45AW is about the size for my 550D + 18-135), but it's still too bulky, with zips and things to get in the way.

Some foam would be nice, to give a little protection, but my rucksacks are waterproof, and I could always use a drybag if the weather got very wet.

Does anyone take their camera with them in this style ?

How about a drybag lined with a bit of closed-cell foam (like the bits that Go Outdoors sell for a few pence as seat-pads, or a camping mat from a pound-shop)? You might even be able to cut and stitch the foam to make a pouch/pocket shape.

I have wrapped my camera in a large microfibre cloth (teatowel size) and put it into a drybag - but it is a bit cumbersome to get in and out - mainly because of the cloth (it catches and drags over the camera rather than slides).

I use an FStop Gear ICU inside my rucksack (also FStop Gear, but you could go for other brands.)

Hi. Thanks for the suggestions. I like the look of an icu. I think I'll look for cheaper products. It's only a 550d plus 18-135 after all!
