It depends on what you're using them for. Do you want soft lighting? Does it need to mount on a camera? How big an area must you illuminate?

No not camera mounted, Lightstand or just hand held.

Mainly for Bride portraits. Ideal nice and soft but I wouldn't mind the flexibility to harden the light up a bit for some punch.

I'm a big fan of the F&V brand ones. Litepanels brand are 'the' name choice, but I'm not a huge fan (and not on cost basis, though I haven't used the small one linked above - it does look very neat).

Put a sheet of Lee 216 diffusion on the front of them (as well as the included diffusion panel) and you get a lovely soft light that you can dim down really low.

you can buy their versions released for the chinese market, and still very very good, on ebay: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/F-V-HVR-C...pt=UK_Camera_Video_Lights&hash=item2a302da715 or bicolour: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/F-V-HVR-C...pt=UK_Camera_Video_Lights&hash=item2a302dbdd0

Cheers - I'll have a look into those links.

Yeah litepanels seem to be the name choice - was it build quality or usability or something that you didnt like?

build quality's good (they're a bit of a rental house standard, which is normally a good sign on this front), the light output in all of the ones I've used just hasn't been up there - and their published stats agree with this. Some people report odd greeny colour spikes too - though this is more of an issue for video than stills, and may refer to the older generations.

And yeah, they're not cheap either!
