Not sure how cheap you want but a while back I bought a Yongnuo MC-36R and have to say It's a cracking bit of kit for the money.

Nice LCD screen and allows you to set the delay before exposing, length of exposure, interval between exposures and number of exposures.

If you prefer to expose manually you can slide and lock another shutter button.

Yep, seconded. There are others on ebay that are identical for a bit cheaper than the youngnuo. I had a copy for my 50D and I now have a Youngnuo for my D700.

I've a Phottix TR90 that I've used a lot with my 40D for long exposures and a dabble in timelapse.

I've got one of these from an eBay seller. My one is techncially a MeiKe MK-36 but I think there are lots of Chinese manufacturers making essentially identical products. Great piece of kit, very flexible.
