Recommendation for conpact tripod for travelling

Any suggestions? Would like one which is sturdy and as cheap as possible!
 
As many here are fond of quoting, you can have sturdy or cheap but not both. While not exactly cheap but probably one of the cheapest for the size look at the Benro Travel Angel series... folds down to like 14-15inches depending the model.

Totally agree with Jacob....must be without doubt the best light weight tripod out there. Wouldn't be without mine at any price.

There is also the Gitzo Mountaineer range that is very light and almost as compact that could be picked up secondhand for less money.

I also have a Gitzo Traveller, a GT1542T. I also have a Redsnapper which weighs double the weight of the Gitzo. As a lot of my photography involves a lot of legwork the Gitzo has been money very well spent, I now always have a support with me, whereas before I would only carry the Redsnapper if I knew I would use it. The Gitzo fits nicely under the flap of my Thinktank Retrospective 10 and is very compact. It takes the weight of a gripped 7D with a 70-200 2.8L IS USM III attached. I use it with a Redsnapper RSH-61 ballhead which performs without slipping at all, although a Markins would be nice but I can't see how it would do the job better. I still use the Redsnapper for indoor work, and for out the back of the car, but the Gitzo is invaluable for impromptu walkabout work. My advice is buy right and buy once.
