Recommendations for £150 camera

Hi all

My father has just asked me what camera he can buy for £150.

So who better to ask than members on here,

So any recommendations please, only requirement is digital point & shoot and easy to use with a zoom would be useful.

I'd second a Canon SX series or the Panasonic FZ series maybe used if the new price is to high. If these are too big to carry around the Canon S95/100/110 are great pocketable cameras.
 
It's a bit of a wide question, really. What does he want to shoot? How much control does he want? Has he done much photography? Is he taking this up as a new hobby?

There are huge numbers of p&s models at that sort of price, but they are towards the bottom end of the market so are likely to be a bit fiddly to use and quite limited in what they can do beyond basic p&s stuff. For that money he could pick up an old-ish dSLR with a 18-55 or -85 kit lens; you don't have to change lenses! ;)

My dad is not taking up photography or anything like that, he just wants it take take photos of the grand kids, the house, etc, so really is just looking for a point & shoot that someone can recommend for a budget of £150

Olympus XZ-1, Panasonic LX5/7 - don't overlook a pre-owned camera of 2-3 years old, which cost £300-400 at the time.
 
I honestly don't think it's going to make much difference what he gets in that case. Best thing may be to handle a few and see what fits his hand. Dunno if you can get one with a viewfinder (rather than just a screen) in that price range, but that would be my choice for shooting hypersonic grandchildren. Also, avoid any 'superzoom' stuff as at that price it's likely to be slow. An optical zoom factor of no more than four, I'd say. Beyond that I wouldn't expect to find a lot of significant variation.
 
My advice buy the best canon ixus that falls in budget it's the advice I give anyone who asks a vague what camera question! I've never had any complaints for the simple reason they are dead easy to use and the default output is always easy on the eye!
 
Just bought a Canon sx230 from curry's for £119.it is easy to use and produces nice imaged. If your dad wants to photograph grandchildren with fast motion,dc in this price range won't be fast enough to focus. But it can easily handle general family or out and about photo.
