Recommendations for a lightweight "Holiday zoom" for a D800?

Yes
I recently sold my 25-85mm lens as I have both 16-35mm and 24-70mm Nikkors for my D800e. This is great for most of my photography, however I've just booked a short holiday and I think letting go of the 24-85 may have been a mistake?

I'm not really one for prime lenses as I find the zooms to be so versatile. So would my best option be to pick up another 24-85 nikon lens, or are there any recommendations for an alternative option from either nikon or other brands?

The 24-85 produced decent IQ, had a decent enough zoom range, VR, and was small and lightweight. Remember this is just a holiday lens I'm looking for as my other zooms could get a bit on the heavy side after some time. Although the 16-35 is lighter than the 24-70 so is more manageable.

The downside of the 24-85 was its focus speed, but on holiday this shouldn't be a real issue. I did consider buying a bridge camera such as a Sony RX10 f2.8 24-200mm for holidays but they're an awful lot of money and I'm not sure I want to leave my Nikon at home collecting dust.

Something like a Tamron 28-75 2.8, much lighter and decent IQ?

Or push the boat out and get an XPro with 18-55 lens!

Thanks, I'll have a look into the X-pro. The 28-75 wouldn't be wide enough for my liking as it isn't wide enough.

24-120 f/4 VR?

Thanks for the replies. I had some credit with an online site so decided to buy a 24-85mm.

I looked back at some of my D600 photos and it's surprisingly sharp! Hopefully the D800e won't show any flaws and it'll be idea for what I want it for.
