Hi guys, Ive done a bit of searching, but it wasnt working and then when it did I couldnt find the answers Im looking for.

I would like to be recommended a nice wide angle lens for landscapes (not very pricey). I have the stock 18-55mm lens that came with my D5000 and also I would like to be recommended a decent ND filter (same criteria again).

Thanks,

Ben what do you call "not very pricey"

Tokina 12-24mm is a very well respected wide angle lens which can be had under £300 second-hand. Stepping up from that, the Tokina 11-16mm (in which I've just invested) is a superb performer and can be had for under £400 second-hand.

Are you wanting ND grad filters or ND filters? As in, are you wanting them for 'slowing down' water or darkening skies to expose better?

Thanks for the great reply Ciaran. I will look into the lens you have suggested. Landscape is where I am I think, nothing else really interests me, so thats where I want to concentrate.

Im not too sure on the filters, I would like to go for the 'slowing down' look, I really like the look of shots of slow water.

I guess darkening skies is also interesting, but maybe go for the slow choice first.

I could always go for both depending on cost.

Thanks and look forward to your reply.

For landscapes, the Tokina 12-24mm offers a more flexible range. The 11-16mm isn't so suitable for landscapes as it "pushes" the scene back. Search "11mm" in Flickr and you'll see the effect I mean.

ND filters used for the silky water shots are pricey bits of kit. I've stayed away from investigating too thoroughly as I know I'd want one and I can't afford it. For the darkening skies (so they don't overexpose when you meter off the land), you need ND grads - some very well-respected ones can be had for £30 if you Google "Hitech filters" and click on the Formatt website. I must admit, I've never used the ND grads since buying them last year as I've purchased a circular polariser which gives me enough colour in my skies.

 for the tokina 12-24mm f4 pro - I had one and a cracking lens only sold it due to lack of use - prefered the tokina over the siggie 10-20...

Try OSD for it..
