....for my girlfriend's daughter...

Mainly for birdwatching, so focal length important as is clarity...

Budget £200.

Any ideas please peeps for anything good for this amount of money. Defo cannot stretch to the £500/600 mark for one of those Canon IS bins...

Thanks

There is a pair listed in the for sale section.

I went for the 8x42 version of these Olympus binoculars LINK
Slightly over your budget but they're very good. I'd say they're a decent mid range choice. It's worth having a look at some of the Pentax ones too, they look rather nice.

I'd love a pair of Zeiss or Leica but just can't justify that kind of cost!

cheers

A lesser known company - Bresser - produce really good optics; had some roof prisms 10x42s of theirs until I replaced them with Nikon Monarch 12x56 (which are excellent, but beyond your budget unless secondhand).

As always with these things, get yourself down to a decent retailer and start trying them for yourself, and maybe buy a birdwatching magazine (in disguise if you have to!) to see the myriad of adverts and prices.
